The next Algarve bird watching holiday is from 19th to 16th April 2009

The warm spring days are an idyllic time to explore the Algarve and observe a wide variey of interesting birds from Hoopoes to Purple Gallinule, Azure-winged Magpies to White Storks. On this trip you'll go far off the tourist track and discover a land of estuaries and salt pans, wooded hills and quiet marshes where the diversity of its habitats make for a truly memorable week’s birding.

During this 8-day Algarve bird watching holiday our experienced guides will lead daily excursions throughout the region in search of southern Portugal’s resident and migrant birds. The holiday has been specially designed to give you the chance of enjoying the very best of Algarvian spring birding.

The emphasis of the tour is on quality not quantity taking the time to get to know the birds of Southern Europe and see what surpises each day brings. Our two guides have all the knowledge and enthusiasm needed to make this holiday a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience. Beginners and experienced birders are welcome.

During the holiday you will be staying in pretty, traditional Algarvian cottages in the hills above Loule. The cottages are set in beautiful mature gardens and there's a heated pool and jacuzzi.

Our Next Algarve Bird Watching Holiday

Day 1 – Sunday 19th April 2009 - Arrive at Faro Airport and drive to the cottages. If you flight times allow there's the opportunity to observe the bird who live in and around the cottage grounds. In the evening welcome drinks and a three course meal are served.

Day 2 – Monday 20th April 2009 – In the morning you have free time to explore the historical town of Loule. In the afternoon we'll visit the Ria Formosa nature reserve and the Salinas of Fuseta. A packed lunch is provided.

Day 3 - Tuesday 21st April 2009 - Full day trip to the country and riverside along the Spanish border, driving back via Olhao and the saltpans.

Day 4 – Wednesday 22nd April 2009 – You have the morning free and may like to walk in the countryside or enjoy swimming or sunbathing in the garden. In the afternoon there is a trip to Pera and into the Monchique hills.

Day 5 – Thursday 23rd April 2009 – A day trip to the Cape St Vincent Nature Reserve on the western tip of the Algarve and a stop off at Alvor estuary. A packed lunch is provided.

Day 6 – Friday 24th April 2009 – A day trip to the Alentejo, one of Portugal's least known regions. We will leave the Algarve and travel north to the countryside around Mertola and Castro Verde.

Day 7 – Saturday 25th April 2009 – You have a free morning and we recommend that you visit Loule's famously vibrant Saturday market. In the afternoon we will visit Ludo Farm, Faro marshes and Quinta do Lago. In the evening, we will got to a favourite local restaurant for a meal.

Day 8 – Sunday 26th April 2009 - Return home.

The Algarve bird watching holiday costs £600 per cottage. Each cottage sleeps two people. The maximum group size is only 6 people plus the guide. So if you're interested please contact us.
