The aristocratic Lusitano horses of Portugal are renowned world wide for their ability, good temperament and beauty and are the oldest breed of saddle horses in the world. At our historic manor house in central Portugal we offer you the opportunity to ride and learn more about these stunning horses in their traditional heartland.
The manor dates from the 15th and 16th century and is close to Golega which is known as the Portuguese Capital of the Horse and is famous for its Lusitano studs and the annual week-long Festival of the Horse. Lusitano horses are an integral part of the culture of this region and our equestrian centre honours this tradition with quality riding and dressage lessons, beautiful country rides and
charming onsite accommodation with every comfort for humans and horses!
Countryside Trail Rides
The equestrian centre is very well placed for trail rides with a variety of beautiful and interesting landscapes for you to explore from the vast, unspoilt plains to the tranquil river estuary and traditional, little Portuguese villages. The passage down the River Tagus is the highlight of the tour- not only is it particularly picturesque but on horseback we can reach many parts that would otherwise be unaccessible so adventure and discovery are combined! Trail rides are suitable for experienced riders only and will be preceded by a short lesson for you to get to know your horse.
Riding Lessons and Courses
Riding lessons are available at all levels from beginners to more advanced riders and both children and adults are welcome. Lusitano horses are famous for their quiet, responsive temperaments so lessons on a Lusitano are a delight and experienced and qualified instructors will ensure you get the most out of your time here.
