Run in Portugal

Portugal is a great country for runners with a sunny and mild climate for much of the year, a wide variety of landscapes to explore and races at all levels. Highlights for the coming year for road runners include the ever popular and fast Lisbon marathon and half marathons and the Douro Valley marathon and half marathon- a really spectacular setting amongst the vineyards of the Douro River Valley a UNESCO protected site. Portugal's wild and rugged interior means trail runners are spoilt for choice with many routes that promise to be breathtaking in every sense of the word! The ultimate challenge has to be the 100km Madeira Ultra trail though the 'oh meu Deus' and EnduroTrail runs also sound aptly named! The famous beach half marathon takes place in May and there are a number of quirky runs in Portugal including the annual Porto a Subir race up the steps of this hilly city and the Men Vs Women race also in Porto. Finally you'll find a good selection of shorter runs, that attract both higly competitive athletes and more casual runners, and charity races such as the Race for Life.

There are literally 100s of races so we are listing a selection of the major ones and adding more as we go along. If you're a runner coming to Portugal and you'd like to know if there will be a race during your stay just let us know where and when you'll be here and your preferred type of race (distance/trail/road etc) and we'll let you know what's on! Advance entry is required for most races and there are often discounts for early entry. Dates or details may be subject to change so we recommend contacting the organisers before making travel arrangements.

Here is a list of upcoming runs in Portugal, many races have websites that are currently only available in Portuguese so please also contact us with any queries. We will be adding new races throughout the year. If you are coming to Portugal to watch or compete in a race we can arrange accommodation, car hire and activities for family members at highly competitive rates so please contact us for any help or queries regarding running in Portugal.
