Our Twizy tours of Porto are a fun, eco-friendly and independent way to explore and learn more about Portugal's romantic and picturesque second city.
The Renault Twizy is a 100% electric, two seater car so you can tour in style with no pollution and no noise! Its small size makes it ideal for exploring the little winding streets and parking isn't a problem!
Just driving a nippy, little Twizy is a cool experience in itself but the cars are also fitted with GPS audio guides. So as you drive the audio guide will ensure you get the most out of your time in Porto; pointing out interesting sites as you pass and telling you stories of the city, its history and culture.
To drive a Twizy you must be over 18 years old and have a valid driving license.
We have three set tours that have been designed by our expert local guides to take in highlights of the city, the blue riverside tour which boasts the best views of the city, the purple tour which focuses on the heart of Porto both its famous sights and hidden secrets and the green tour that can be combined with the other two to take you right down to the ocean and back along the riverside.
for a one and a half hour tour and all set tours include a visit to a Port wine cellar. Alternatively you can hire a Twizy and drive freely following a route all of your own (rental available from 1 hour to 9 hours). The tours are available during the day or night.
The Blue Twizy Tour of Porto
The blue route takes you across the river for the best views of Porto
Highlights along the way include the imposing Porto Customs house
built in 1859, the famous Arrabida bridge
with its quaint fishing village atmosphere and mouthwatering smell of grilled fish. Take the chance to photograph the sweep of the Douro estuary
to the ocean beyond and the Luis I bridge
, one of the finest example of ironwork in Portugal. There is time to explore Ribeira
one of the city's oldest and most quintessential neighbourhoods of the city and snap those views before heading up to the unusual circular Monastery of Serra do Pilar
You can see all this and much more in approximately an hour and a half and this tour costs €38 per car (1 or 2 passengers) including a visit to a wine cellar.
The Purple Tour of Porto
This tour takes you into the heart of the city
down its most picturesque city streets.
The tour first visits the Ferreira Borges market
and the beautiful Sao Bento railway station
, famous for its 551 metres of historically themed blue tile panels. Then its on to the historic Sé
neighbourhood home to the city cathedral. During this tour you will learn plenty of intriguing facts about Porto including its uncommon gastronomic habits and the incredible feasts of St. John, one of Europe's liveliest street festivals. On the way to Miragaia we will tell you the famous and tragic love story of King Ramiro and Gaia. Then it's on to the old prison
, former dwelling evil-doers, thieves, out-of-favour politicians and revolutionaries, now it houses The Portuguese Centre of Photography. Next, look up to the sky- welcome to the Clerics Tower!
75 metres tall it has six floors, reached by a literally breath taking 240 step spiral staircase. Can you make it to the top? While in the city centre there is still chance to admire the dramatic Avenida dos Aliados
home to Porto's most imposing architecture before ending your tour.
This tour also lasts approximately an hour and a half and this tour costs €38 per car including a visit to a wine cellar. You can combine the two tours above for a two and a half hour tour for only €51!
Ultimate Twizy Tour of Porto
To see the most of Porto combine the two tours above with the green tour.
In addition to everything above you'll also have the opportunity to learn the secrets of the gorgeous Carmo Church
with its famous tiled exterior. Then its on to the National Museum Soares dos Reis
, a tribute to the renowned Portuguese sculptor and the Crystal Palace
surrounded by elegant, landscaped gardens. The modern House of Music,
built to celebrate Porto’s year as the European Capital of Culture in 2001, offers a piquant contrast to the old city streets you've been exploring.
Now, towards the sea! The great artery of the city, which you are driving along, is called Avenida de Boavista
and only ends when it meets the sea! From there it's back along the riverside where highlights include the forts of the Castelo de Quejo
and San Joao Baptista of the Foz
and the tranquil park Jardim do Passeio Alegre
. Keep an eye out for the quintessentail Rabelo boats
and the one of the old tram lines which is still in operation! You could even say that the stately old electric tram is the ancestor of your agile Twizy! Finally there's time to see the Church of San Francisco
, Porto's only gothic shrine and learn the story of its surprisingly trubulent construction.
This ultimate Twizy tour of Porto takes approximately three and a half hours and costs € 63 per car including a visit the cellar.
