Our Algarve kayak centre is based in the Ria Formosa natural park a 60km long nature reserve and ever changing lagoon system consisting of sandy islands separated by natural inlets and channels ideal for exploration on our kayaks. It is a fascinating area to visit with an abundance of wildlife both in the air and on the water, as well as the chance to watch local people fishing and gathering seafood amongst the lagoons as they have done for hundreds of years. A paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers and a beautiful, tranquil place to relax and play far from the crowds.
The Algarve kayak tours use Hobie pedal kayaks which are dry, easy to use and to steer by a fingertip lever attached to the rudder. It is also possible to sail the kayaks- a couple of minutes instruction and you can sail away! As the tours use the most stable pedal or sail kayaks available they are ideal for families and you don't need any kayaking experience to join a tour.
Double and single kayaks are available and are suitable for everyone from 7 to 70+! Younger children and anyone who doesn't want to kayak are welcome to join us on our support boat.
We currently offer three kayak tours in the east of the Algarve and two further afield in Lagos in the western Algarve and at the Santa Clara Lake in the neighbouring county of the Alentejo:
Algarve kayak tour 1:
This kayak tour takes you from the Praia de Faro to the beautiful Ilha Deserta or deserted island- somewhere you would not normally have the opportunity to explore and the perfect place to relax and unwind.
30 minutes into the tour we will take a break to enjoy some local fruit and a drink while admiring the spectacular views, collecting shells, or just relaxing in the sunshine. From there we head on to the deserted island where we will have lunch and you can swim, try your hand at sailing and snorkelling or just relax in this natural paradise. During the tour the guide will point out interesting features of the nature reserve and help you spot the local wildlife.
The tours leaves at around 10am and returns the Faro beach at around 5 or 6pm, where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing or playing on the kayaks. We have a support boat so if you are feeling lazy or tired you can take it easy and sit back while we tow you along and mums/dads with small children can also choose to travel to the island in it.
Algarve Kayak Tour 2:
This tour departs from the historic town of Tavira and heads out to a lovely deserted beach where you can enjoy a tasty lunch followed by sailing lessons and snorkelling. This tour leaves at approximately 10am and returns to Tavira at approximately 5pm.

Algarve Kayak Tour 3:
This kayak tour leaves Fuseta Beach at 10am. From there we wind our away along narrow water channels passing many local and migrating birds wading in the shallows and experiencing a segment of life in the Algarve that has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Arriving at Armona Island, you will have the chance to relax, explore the quaint streets and cottages and enjoy lunch on the fisherman's beach. A light lunch is included in this trip but there is also the option of tucking into a traditional lunch in a beach front Portuguese restaurant with soup, a meat or fish main course, fruit, wine / beer or soft drinks and a coffee for an additional 12euros per person.
After lunch you can swim, sail and snorkel before returning to Fuseta, arriving around 5pm.
These full day kayak tours cost 50 euros a day for adults and 25 euros for children age 7-14, kids under 7 yrs go free and all equipment and lunch is supplied.
Algarve Kayak tour 4:
This is a two and a half hour kayak tour exploring Lagos' spectacular coastline. Departing from Lagos beach you'll have the chance to see the famous and intriguing rock formations up close, observe the local wildlife, discover some amazing secluded beaches and take impressive photographs. The kayaks will be accompanied by a support boat and guide. This tour costs 30 euros for adults and 20 euros for children aged 7 to 14
Alentejo Kayak tour- Santa Clara:
A unique 4x4 and kayak adventure! A chance to kayak on the Santa Clara Lake in the Alentejo, this fresh water lake has a circumference of 30km, an abundance of interesting flora and fauna and its shores and channels are ideal for exploration. From the Algarve you will travel north to the lake in our luxury 7 seater 4x4 vehicle, the journey is fun especially as the roads become smaller and smaller until the last 12km is off-road. There are fantastic views with photo stops en-route and you'll have a tasty barbecue lunch in the grounds of a beautiful hillside guesthouse with breathtaking lake views. The guide will tell you all about the unique features of the lake and answer your questions regarding the local area. After lunch you can kayak on the lake, go mountain biking, hiking or just relax and appreciate nature at its best. This tour is a great opportunity to see another side to life in Portugal and discover the beautiful but little known Alentejo region.
