Discover The Azores

Sao Miguel, Azores

Browse our listings for the Azores

The dramatic yet tranquil islands of the Azores offer a haven of calm in the mid-Atlantic.

The nine islands were formed by ancient volcanoes which left their mark upon the stunning landscapes. The hills and mountains are often rich in vegetation and have a surprise around each corner maybe a deep crater, a sparkling lagoon, a steaming geyser, a sea of flowers or an incredible view over the ocean.

On the lower slopes small whitewashed villages nestle amongst lush fields, vineyards and orchards. Untouched and unspoilt by mass tourism or unsympathetic development, visitors come here to relax in the pure air and spectacular scenery and to explore the islands by land and sea.

The Azores are a great destination for nature lovers and are recognised as one of the best places in the world to watch wild dolphins and whales. Fishermen boast of the records set here with catches including Blue Marlin weighing over 1000lb (453kg)! An up-and-coming destination for scuba-diving, surfing, windsurfing and other water-sports, the mild temperature of the water means that you can indulge your passion all year round.

If you prefer to stay on dry land why not pack a picnic and spend the day exploring the islands on foot, by bike or horse-back? The islands stay green and mild all year around and are teeming with interesting animal and plant life and incredible views. Or if you're feeling more adventurous you could go caving- there are more than 200 caves to delve into in the mountains and along the rocky shore.
